Fall 2011 Girls on the Run DC Participants:
~I like Girls on the Run because I get to spend extra time with my friends after school and our coaches are really nice. My favorite lesson was the one we did on cooperation because the game we played was fun. We had to stand on pieces of paper that were a little bit apart and get all the way around the circle of papers without touching the ground in between. All of us were talking at first because it was really hard to do, but in the end we listened to each other and made a plan that worked. ~HD Cooke 4th Grader
~This is my first time doing Girls on the Run. My favorite lesson so far has been the lesson where we talked about standing up for ourselves. I learned that if someone is being mean to you or always bullying you, it’s ok to let that person know how you feel; you can tell them to stop. We went over four steps that you can do to do this. The steps help you tell the other person in a certain way that you don’t get angry, the person knows why you feel the way you do and why you want them to stop. ~Francis Stevens 4th Grader
~I was really nervous to run the 5K the first season I did Girls on the Run. I thought I wouldn’t be able to do it, but Ms. Jacqueline [my coach] ran with me and she made it so much fun. This year I’m not nervous at all for 5K because I know I can do it. There are lots of things going on at the race. There are healthy snack tents with things like bananas and lots of people. You get to run with someone who is there to talk to you along the way. Now, the 5K is one of my favorite parts of Girls on the Run! ~ DC Bilingual 4th grader
