Spring 2014 Parents

Amanda Marr does it all: Account Supervisor at Hager Sharp, GOTR-DC board member, volunteer, and mom extraordinaire! Amanda has been a wonderful volunteer at GOTR-DC for five years and a board member for the past two. This spring season she volunteered at the GOTR 5k and ran alongside her own daughter. She loves this organization because it combines her two biggest passions: RUNNING and GIRL POWER!

Spring 2012 Parents ~ “We Love Girls on the Because . . . “

~ It allows my child to express herself more openly and encourage her to run to the finish line. Meaning that she can do anything if she put her head and mind to it.

~ It’s a positive and healthy activity for my daughter.  It helped her train to run a 5K.  She ran the whole thing, which she couldn’t do in the winter.  I am so proud of her!

~ Camaraderie among the girls.

~ It motivated my daughter to discover she loves running.

~ It has been an absolutely positive experience for my daughter.

~ It teaches the girls how to set goals and accomplish them.

~ IT WAS FUN. TEACHING HER TO BE MORE HEALHTY, and HELPED DEVELOP A SKILL FOR RUNNING…

~They gave us a wonderful Food and fitness journal! My daughter loved the discussion topics at every practice! Her want and need to run track and continue running is at an all time high now! My daughter was so very proud of herslef the entire time! and all day and night on Sunday you could hear her say ‘ I can’t believe I did it! I’m so proud of myself!!!”

Previous Parent Testimonies

I wanted to also let you know that my girls have been participating, either as participants in the program at school or signing up for the races, in one form or another since 3rd grade (they are now in 6th grade). The GOTR program led them to express an interest in running and they now participate in a city-wide track and field program and cross country program as well. They have improved their physical conditioning and running quite a bit over the past 4 years and can now compete in regional events. Their awareness of the importance of physical exercise for health and general well-being is much greater than it was for their parents at the same age! I really appreciate the program and its continuation into middle school — they really enjoy the program. Thanks for supporting this effort, especially in DC! ~ Two Rivers Parent,  Fall 2011

My daughter LOVES GOTR! She comes home excited every Tuesday and Thursday to tell us what she did during the after school session. She loves the lessons, loves the exercise, and adores the spirit of community and close relationships with her coaches and peers. She begged for a pedometer after the first week so she can track her exercise, and records her progress avidly. Most important, she’s become a real cheerleader for her friends and talks about how well they’re doing as well as talking about her own accomplishments. Can’t thank your organization enough and her coaches, Alana and Meredith, for bring GOTR to our school. ~ Washington Yu Ying Parent, Fall 2011

My daughter has been having a fantastic time. The program is augmenting the lessons we’re working on at home, giving us support in the efforts towards teaching her to lead a long, happy, healthy life. ~Marie Reed Parent, Fall 2011

Love, love, love GOTR. Great organization that builds self esteem for girls through team running. My daughter loves it! ~Lafayette Parent, Fall 2011
