Updates for the Spring 2010 Race
The GOTR-DC Spring 2010 5K Event is making some changes and taking on a new face: we are holding the 5K at a new venue, we are “Running Green,”  and we are moving from a chip-timed race to a non-competitive 5K Event.

  • GOTR-DC decided to find a new venue for this Spring’s 5K Event in order to save on race costs so that we can apply those costs to fund scholarships for more students. In addition, the new site, American University, will be more Metro-accessible. AU is providing us with free shuttle service to and from AU and the Tenleytown station.  Finally, we felt that by holding the 5K Event at a university, and utilizing its track and sports field space along the course, would provide an inspiring venue for our girls with built-in mentors: the students and cross country/track team!
  • In addition to holding the 5K at a new venue, we are making the race as environmentally friendly as possible.  You will see this effort through out the registration and packet pick-up process to race day itself.  GOTR-DC is also holding a “Running Green” contest among its GOTR teams by asking the girls to submit one short essay, list or illustration that reflects what it means to make the race “Running Green” and what are the best ways to make that happen!  GOTR-DC will make an announcement during the awards ceremony after the 5K to announce a grand prize winner and two runners-up! Details of the contest will be posted soon.
  • Another major change GOTR-DC has decided to implement this spring season is to move from hosting a chip-timed races (like we have done in the past) to using just a giant runner’s clock at the finish line. We think that this change will help us stay truer to our mission of not promoting a competitive atmosphere but of celebrating all of the girls’ accomplishment of finishing a 5K.  This change also allows us to devote more funds to supporting students who would otherwise not be able to participate in the program.
