At Girls on the Run - DC, the end of every season is marked by something truly special—our Community Impact Projects. These projects are an opportunity for participants to channel the skills they’ve developed throughout the season—confidence, teamwork, and compassion—into meaningful contributions to their communities.
In Fall 2024, our teams once again showed incredible creativity and care in making a difference. Here are just a few of the ways they gave back:
Holy Redeemer School (College Park)
The team at Holy Redeemer School created a kindness chain, linking messages from every class to symbolize the power of small acts of kindness. The project served as a visual reminder of how even the smallest gestures can unite and uplift a community.
School Within School
Hosting a food drive for SOME (So Others Might Eat), the participants at School Within School worked together to collect donations that supported individuals and families in need during the holiday season. Their effort not only provided essential resources but also exemplified the spirit of giving and service.
Riverdale Elementary School
At Riverdale Elementary, participants got creative by crafting personalized “paper squishies” as tokens of appreciation for their teachers. Each squishy featured a thoughtful message celebrating the unique contributions of their educators, fostering a deeper sense of gratitude within their school community.
Christian Family Montessori School
This team focused on spreading joy to children experiencing homelessness by designing heartfelt birthday cards. Their colorful creations and warm messages brought smiles and a sense of celebration to children who might otherwise feel forgotten on their special day.
These inspiring projects are a testament to the impact our participants can make when they work together with purpose and compassion. By planning and executing their Community Impact Projects, they not only learn the value of giving back but also leave a lasting, positive mark on their communities.
