Girls on the Run - DC Staff Reflects on Women's History Month

Throughout March, in honor of Women's History Month, Girls on the Run – DC has been celebrating the theme "Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations" by sharing reflections from our dedicated staff. Each team member's insights shed light on how we can collectively empower future generations of women.

Anna, Program Intern

Spring 2025 Women's History Month Spotlight

Anna believes that "Moving Forward Together" means ensuring no one is left behind. She emphasizes the importance of all women, gender non-conforming individuals, and people moving together hand-in-hand, not despite our differences but because of them. By truly loving and appreciating everyone for who they are, Anna believes real, tangible change can happen.

Rachel, Program Director

Rachel

Rachel shares that the best advice she's received from a woman in her life is to advocate for oneself, especially in the workplace. She underscores the importance of knowing one's worth, setting boundaries, and helping pave the way for positive change. Embracing one's voice and using it is crucial in her perspective.

Keisha, Communications Director

Keisha
Keisha mentors and uplifts young women by staying true to herself and encouraging them to do the same.
She believes there's real power in authenticity and hopes that by showing up as her genuine self, she inspires girls to embrace what makes them unique. Keisha strives to lead by example through her words, actions, and how she treats others, always learning and growing, and wants young girls to see that it's okay to evolve and strive to be better every day. Living by the golden rule—treating people with kindness, respect, and empathy—is central to her approach.

Devoria, Executive Director

Devoria

Devoria uplifts young girls in her community by staying true to herself and encouraging them to do the same. She believes there's real power in authenticity, and by showing up as her genuine self, she hopes to inspire girls to embrace what makes them unique. Being a positive role model matters to her, so she does her best to lead by example—through her words, actions, and how she treats others. She's always learning and growing and wants young girls to see that it's okay to evolve and strive to be better every day. Most importantly, she lives by the golden rule: treating people with kindness, respect, and empathy, just as she wants to be treated. By carrying these values with her, she hopes to uplift and empower the next generation of strong, confident, and compassionate women.

As we conclude this reflection series, we're reminded of the collective strength found in unity, authenticity, self-advocacy, and mentorship. By embracing these values, we can continue to inspire and empower the next generation of women leaders.
