Still Time to Prep for the GOTR-DC 5K on May 18

The Countdown Is On: Help Your Girl Get Ready for the GOTR-DC 5K on May 18!

We’re less than a month away from our Girls on the Run - DC 5K at Anacostia Park on Sunday, May 18, and the excitement is building! Whether your girl is counting down the days or just starting to think about race day, there’s still time to help her feel proud and prepared for this incredible achievement.

Here are three simple, meaningful ways to support her in the home stretch:

1. Start a Confidence Journal

Encourage your girl to jot down a few reflections after each practice: how she felt, something she’s proud of, or how she supported a teammate. This builds self-awareness and helps her see just how far she’s come—mentally, emotionally, and physically. If she’s not running on her own, that’s okay! This is about celebrating effort, not mileage.

2. Move Together

Invite her to go for a walk, play outside, or stretch together after school or on the weekend. Moving with a friend, sibling, or caregiver can make it feel fun and relaxed while keeping her body in motion. No pressure—just connection, laughter, and movement.

3. Support Healthy Routines

Now’s a great time to focus on feel-good habits like staying hydrated, eating balanced meals, and getting enough rest. These small steps make a big difference in how she feels—and help her show up on race day feeling her best.

No matter how she crosses the finish line—running, walking, or skipping—it’s a powerful moment of growth, celebration, and confidence. We can’t wait to see your girl shine on May 18 at Anacostia Park.

Let’s finish this season strong—together!
