On Sunday, May 19, Girls on the Run - DC hosted our much-anticipated 5K Celebration at Anacostia Park. The event was a tremendous success, filled with energy, excitement, and a sense of accomplishment that will resonate with everyone who participated.
The day began with a buzz of anticipation as girls, families, coaches, and community members gathered under cloudy skies, unsure if the predicted rain would make an appearance. However, we were happy the the rain held off, allowing us to enjoy a perfect day for a 5K.
A Run to Remember
The 5K Celebration marked the culmination of weeks of hard work and dedication. Our participants have spent the past season training, setting goals, and building confidence through the Girls on the Run and Heart and Sole programs. Seeing the determination and joy on their faces as they crossed the finish line was a true testament to their growth and resilience.
Special Guest Performance by Batalá DC
Adding to the morning's excitement, we had a surprise performance by Batalá DC, an all-women Afro-Brazilian band that brought infectious energy to the course. Their vibrant rhythms and powerful beats provided the perfect soundtrack, motivating our runners and creating an atmosphere of celebration and community.
